The Journey for justice crew with Kevin Locke made it to the Bulldog cafe in Oaksterdam. The crowd was a bit small but the lack
of numbers didn’t curb any enthusiasim. I caught a chance to speak with
Kevin Locke and he related several episodes of the long journey that
started in North Carolina .
Kevin ran into medical problems near
the continental divide in Colorado. His team members awoke him and
Kevin was mumbling incoherently. He was rushed to an emergency room
with severely low blood oxygen level. After 6 hours on oxygen and an IV
later Kevin was ready to proceed on. During the Dr. visit Kevin was
tested for illegal drugs and all that was found in his system was
cannabis. The Dr. couldn’t tell he was a pot smoker or cigarette
smoker, a testament to the cardio lung work from all that cycling.
While staying at the campground near Sacramento the operator of the
campground saw the banners and went out of his way to mention if he
smelled any marijuana he would call the police. Well ten minutes later,
pot or no pot, the sheriff shows up for a pot sobriety test. I’ve never
heard of one but according to ‘our boys’ it’s a short study to pass
with flying colors.
I found a gracious host at the Bulldog caf?, and I know the journey for
Justice team did too. Richard, the proprietor made everyone feel right
at home. The Oaksterdam scene was basic legislated out of existence and
the businesses there are feeling the pinch. Activists need to support
these coffee houses that are friendly to the movement for the extras
they bring to the movement. One such event scheduled for Saturday July
15 2:30-4:30 at the Bulldog is a grow class conducted by local growing
experts. I’ll be there.
