Dear Friend,
On Monday,
April 2, my school -- Oaksterdam University in Oakland -- was raided by
the DEA, IRS, and US Marshals. Oaksterdam provides training to the
medical cannabis industry, and is fully compliant with state and local
law.
President Obama promised at the beginning of his administration to
respect state medical marijuana laws. He has broken this promise time
and time again -- and the consequences have been devastating.
This
was a senseless act of intimidation. But I've been an activist far too
long to become intimidated -- and with the majority of Americans and
common sense on our side, I know this is a fight we can win.
With our government trillions in debt, why is our government using
taxpayer dollars to come after me, Oaksterdam, and the thousands of
patients who need medical marijuana just to get through the day?
Tell
President Obama and the DEA: Enough is enough. Keep your campaign
promise, and stop the raids on the medical cannabis industry!
Thanks for your support,
Richard Lee

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In
the wake of recent attacks on medical marijuana providers and patients
by multiple branches of the federal government, including Monday's raids
on Oaksterdam University in Oakland, CA, a coalition of six national
drug policy reform organizations is appealing to President Obama and his
administration to follow its own previously stated policies respecting
state medical marijuana laws. In the letter, posted in full below, the
organizations call on the Obama administration to bring an end to the
federal government’s ongoing campaign to undermine state efforts to
regulate safe and legal access to medical marijuana for those patients
who rely on it.

Oaksterdam Get Down
Come join the fun!
Last Sunday of every month.
|
Every last Sunday of the month means the totally peaceful, completely awesome Oaksterdam Get Down hosted by our friends at OaksterdamNews.Com. Visit 375 15th Street in downtown Oakland between noon and 6 p.m. every last Sunday of the month, for the event that cures racism: namely, a police-sanctioned, marijuana-friendly block party. Any bad bones in your body will be cured by cannabis-infused hamburgers and barbecue sauce, and the good bones will be nothing but magnified. Come early for the live music, and stay late for the love.

American for Safe Access comes to Lake County |

Americans for Safe Access, the grass roots organization founded in
2002 by Medical cannabis patients and current Executive Director Steph
Sherer, now has a newly formed chapter in Lake County, California.
Formed by MMJ patient and advocate Donna Serna the Lake Co. chapter has
hit the ground running actively recruiting new members and getting
involved in the local political scene.
With a member base of over 30,000 active members with chapters
and affiliates in more than 40 states, ASA has been instrumental in
shaping the political and legal landscape of medical marijuana in
California and the United States. Last year CAMP confiscated more
marijuana plants from Lake co. than any other county in California by
more than double. We are the home of marijuana advocates and
celebrities such as Jack Herer and Eddy Lepp and now we are happy to
welcome the newly formed ASA chapter.
Because of the size of the lake and the time it takes to drive
around it, ASA will be holding two meetings per month. The first
meeting of the month for west Lake co. is always the second Thursday of
the month at 6:00 pm and is currently held at Café Victoria, 301 N Main
Street, Lakeport. The second meeting for east Lake co. is always on the
fourth Thursday and is held at 6:00 pm at D&M Compassion Center,
15196 Lakeshore Dr, Clearlake. This allows the citizens of Lake co. to
decide which meeting is closer for them and save some driving time.
Attending both meeting is not necessary but is also not discouraged.
You do not have to be a MMJ patient to join ASA. More info at
www.safeaccessnow.org.
There is a lot of work to be done in Lake co. and ASA is hoping
to recruit as many new members as possible to help them win their
fight. The city of Clearlake recently voted to extend their moratorium
on MMJ dispensaries for another year extending the ban until April of
2008. The city of Lakeport just passed an ordinance that took effect on
April 6, 2007 banning ALL MMJ cultivation in the city limits, both
indoor and outdoor. It was this ordinance by the city of Lakeport, in
fact, that prompted Donna Serna to get actively involved in the fight
and start this new ASA chapter. I commend and encourage Donna in her
efforts. We need more people like her on our side.
For more information or to be sure a meeting place has not
been moved you can contact Donna Serna at 707-245-6630. You can also
contact D&M Compassion Center at 707-994-1320.
